Rochon is the daughter of Zelma Staples and Samuel Staples. She was born in Torrance, Los Angeles, to Zelma Staples and Samuel Staples. Cerritos High school, Cerritos California is where Rochon graduated from high school in 1982. Rochon earned a bachelor's diploma in broadcast journalism from California State University Dominguez Heights (CSUDH) in 1986. Her other minors include theatre, sociology and theatre. Rochon's first visit to CSUDH occurred in the year 2016 in the year she was a speaker at commencement for the College of Arts and Humanities.

Ullerup was on the show Chesapeake Shores as Bree O'Brien. Ullerup played Maggie Thomas the estranged husband of Michael Thomas.
